Gold Proof 2015 Sovereign Boxed - 5th Portrait

This Royal Mint box-set features a single gold 2015 Proof Sovereign coin with the 5th portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The year 2015 unusually saw 2 different portrait designs for the proof sovereign as UK coinage changed from the Rank-Broadley design to the Clark design.

This coin weighs the same as a regular (or Bullion) Sovereign, at 7.98grams and 22-carat gold (91.67% fineness). This proof has been struck using specially selected blanks and highly polished dies. During striking, the coinage dies exert enormous pressure on the coin blank, with at least two separate blows (or strikes), ensuring that the impression has extra clarity.
